DOOMED FLIGHT

Date: May, 1942. One of six Grumman 
TBF-1 Avengers to attack the Japanese 
fleet early in the Battle of Midway. 
None returned to base on Midway Island.

Date: 1945. Patrolling near Dover, 
this Supermarine MkXIV Spitfire had a 
top speed of 439 mph, with performance equal
to any allied fighter in service at that time.

Date: 1943. North American B-25 Mitchells
on a tank-busting mission. This versatile 
medium bomber was used in both the
Pacific and European Theatres.

Date: 1939. The Boeing P-26 "Peashooter" 
was used in combat very early in the Pacific 
Theatre where it won a few air duels
against the Japanese just after Pearl Harbor

Date: 1944. U.S. B-17s in action against a
Bf-109, the Luftwaffe's mainstay fighter.
Dominant in early WWII, the 109 had all
it could handle against later allied fighters.

Date: 1950. A carrier-based RAF 
Hawker Sea Fury patrols the waters
off North Korea.

Date: 1943. Martin B-26B Marauders of the 
24th Bombardment Squadron based in Sardinia
attack Nazi-held fuel facilities.

Date: 1944, June 6th. RAF Lockheed P-38
Lightnings patrol Juno Beach at Normandy
on D-Day. Dubbed "The Forked-Tailed Devil"
by German Pilots.

THE SAVIOUR OF ENGLAND

Date: 1940. Hawker Hurricanes intercept 
ME-110s on a bombing run. The Hurricane
accounted for more enemy aircraft than any
other fighter of WWII.

Date: 1944. The best American 
Fighter-Bomber, the Republic P-47 
Thunderbolt was also a formidable
dog-fighter and long-range bomber 
escort. In action here against a 
German supply train.

Date: 1945. Messerschmitt ME-262 in 
action against U.S. Boeing B-17s. The 
first operational jet of WWII, the fast 
and deadly 262 was a shock to allied 
aircrews.

Date: 1951. Lockheed F-94B Starfire over
Korea, serving with the 319th FLSQ.
